Ingredients
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 tbsp melted unsalted butter
- 1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, melted butter, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In another bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and beaten egg. Stir and knead until a soft dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour, until it doubles in size.
- Press down the dough gently to release air bubbles. Knead again until smooth. Cover and let rise for another 30-60 minutes.
- Knead again to remove air pockets. Divide into 8 pieces. Roll each into a 10-inch rope, twist and pinch ends.
- Place twisted dough on a floured tray. Let rise for 30 minutes, flipping gently after 15 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F. Fry doughnuts for about 5 minutes until golden brown, flipping gently with tongs.
- Drain and coat with sugar while warm, or cool and dust with powdered sugar.
Notes
Use warm milk to activate yeast properly. Customize flavors with vanilla or lemon icing.
