Description
A fun and simple science experiment that creates a mini tornado right before your eyes! Perfect for kids and adults.
Ingredients
- 1 clear jar with a tight-fitting lid
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- Glitter or small star confetti (optional)
- Food coloring (blue, gray, or purple – optional)
- Spoon or craft stick for mixing
Instructions
- Pour the water into the jar, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
- Add the dish soap and white vinegar to the water. Stir gently to combine.
- If you’d like, add a drop or two of food coloring and sprinkle in some glitter or star confetti for extra fun.
- Tightly close the jar with its lid.
- Hold the jar by the lid and base, then swirl it in a fast, circular motion for a few seconds. Stop and watch a mini tornado form in the center!
- You can repeat the swirling motion as many times as you’d like to watch the vortex effect.
Notes
Use a clear jar to fully enjoy the swirling effects. Experiment with different colors of food coloring for a unique look.
