Ingredients

  • 1 clear jar with a tight-fitting lid
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • Glitter or small star confetti (optional)
  • Food coloring (blue, gray, or purple – optional)
  • Spoon or craft stick for mixing

Instructions

  1. Pour the water into the jar, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
  2. Add the dish soap and white vinegar to the water. Stir gently to combine.
  3. If you’d like, add a drop or two of food coloring and sprinkle in some glitter or star confetti for extra fun.
  4. Tightly close the jar with its lid.
  5. Hold the jar by the lid and base, then swirl it in a fast, circular motion for a few seconds. Stop and watch a mini tornado form in the center!
  6. You can repeat the swirling motion as many times as you’d like to watch the vortex effect.

Notes

Use a clear jar to fully enjoy the swirling effects. Experiment with different colors of food coloring for a unique look.
