A hearty and delicious casserole that combines breakfast sausage, crispy tater tots, and melted cheese for a perfect meal any time of day.
Ingredients
- 1 lb breakfast sausage
- 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup green onions, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread the tater tots evenly in the bottom of the baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using).
- Add the cooked sausage on top of the tater tots, then pour the egg mixture over the sausage and tater tots.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with chopped green onions (optional) and serve hot.
Notes
For added flavor, consider mixing in vegetables like bell peppers or spinach. You can use turkey or chicken sausage for a lighter option.
