Description

A traditional Italian pizza topped with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, olive oil, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  5. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  6. Roll out the dough onto a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  7. Transfer the rolled dough to a baking sheet or pizza stone.
  8. Spread tomato sauce over the dough, then layer with mozzarella slices.
  9. Season with salt and pepper, and top with fresh basil.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.

Notes

For a crispier crust, bake on a pizza stone preheated in the oven.
