Description
A traditional Italian pizza topped with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, olive oil, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Roll out the dough onto a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- Transfer the rolled dough to a baking sheet or pizza stone.
- Spread tomato sauce over the dough, then layer with mozzarella slices.
- Season with salt and pepper, and top with fresh basil.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
Notes
For a crispier crust, bake on a pizza stone preheated in the oven.
