Description
A hearty and comforting dish featuring tender cabbage leaves filled with ground beef, rice, and spices, cooked in rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 3.5 pounds chopped cabbage
- 29 ounces canned tomato sauce
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 28 ounces canned beef broth
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large pot, cook the cabbage in boiling water until softened, about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, uncooked rice, and salt. Mix well.
- Lay out cabbage leaves and place a portion of the meat mixture on each leaf. Roll tightly and tuck in the ends.
- Place the rolls seam side down in a baking dish.
- Pour the tomato sauce and beef broth over the cabbage rolls.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 1.5 hours.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes. Serve hot.
Notes
To make rolling easier, use the larger outer leaves of the cabbage. You can also add spices like paprika or pepper for flavor.
