Description

A simple yet rich chocolate cake that is perfect for any occasion, easy to make, and full of flavor.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated white sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup warm water or coffee
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup corn, vegetable, safflower, or canola oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup unsalted butter


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Add the eggs, warm water or coffee, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
  7. To make the chocolate frosting, melt the chopped chocolate and let it cool. In a bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy, then gradually add the melted chocolate and mix until smooth.
  8. Frost the cooled cakes with the frosting and serve.

Notes

Tips: Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing and add chocolate chips for an extra chocolate flavor.
