Description

Make these colorful creations that bounce and fizz, combining fun with a little bit of science.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white school glue
  • 1/4 cup liquid starch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon rainbow glitter or sugar sprinkles
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Food coloring (multiple colors for rainbow effect)
  • 1 tablespoon citric acid
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 small mixing bowl
  • 1 spoon or craft stick for mixing

Instructions

  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine the white school glue and water. Stir to combine.
  2. Add the baking soda to the mixture, followed by the rainbow glitter or sugar sprinkles. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Divide the mixture into sections and mix in different food coloring drops to create a rainbow spectrum. Stir each until the color is evenly blended.
  4. Gradually pour in the liquid starch while stirring the mixture constantly. Continue stirring until it thickens and becomes sticky.
  5. Add the citric acid and cornstarch to the mixture to enhance pop and firmness. Knead with your hands until the texture is smooth and bouncy.
  6. Take small portions of each color and roll them together to form a rainbow swirl ball.
  7. Roll the mixture into 1-2 inch balls. If too sticky, dust with cornstarch lightly.
  8. Drop the balls onto a hard surface to test their bounce. When pressed or squished, they’ll fizz and pop slightly from the citric acid reaction!

Notes

Store in an airtight container to keep them fresh and bouncy. They can last for weeks when stored properly.
