A fun and creative science experiment for kids, creating colorful and fizzy potions outdoors using simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- Baking soda (1–2 cups)
- Vinegar (1–2 cups)
- Food coloring (variety of colors)
- Glitter or biodegradable confetti (optional)
- Squeeze bottles

- Natural materials (leaves, flower petals, dirt, grass, twigs)
- Large trays, buckets, or shallow bins
Instructions
- Head outside and choose a play area with grass or a flat surface for setting up your experiment.
- Arrange large trays or bins to catch any spills during the experiment.
- Fill squeeze bottles or cups with vinegar, adding a few drops of different food coloring to create various colors.
- Place baking soda in separate bowls or bins for easy access. Optionally, mix in glitter or biodegradable confetti.
- Allow kids to roam and collect natural materials like leaves, flower petals, twigs, etc., for their potions.
- Have kids scoop baking soda into their chosen containers and add their collected natural items.
- Once potions are created, have them slowly pour or squirt the colored vinegar into the containers with baking soda.
- Observe the fizzy reaction and encourage experimentation with different color combinations and materials.
