Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) softened butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup butter (for icing)
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup (for icing)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp maple extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract to the mixture and mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet and flatten slightly.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are golden. Let cool completely before icing.
- In a small saucepan, melt together the butter and maple syrup for the icing. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar and maple extract until smooth.
- Spoon the icing over the cooled cookies and let it set.
Notes
Make sure your butter is softened and at room temperature. Use pure maple syrup for the best flavor. To avoid overbaking, cookies should be soft when removed from oven. Consider adding nuts or chocolate chips for variations.
