Rich, creamy homemade caramel sauce that adds a delightful sweet touch to desserts.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a heavy saucepan, stir together the sugar and water to create an even layer.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat. Allow it to bubble and become clear (about 3–4 minutes).
- Stop stirring and swirl the pan gently if needed.
- Cook until the mixture turns a deep amber color (8–12 minutes).
- Carefully whisk in the butter until it melts.
- Remove the pan from heat, then slowly whisk in the heavy cream, followed by the vanilla extract and salt.
- Allow the caramel to cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer it to a jar.
Notes
Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat gently to soften before use.
