Description

Rich, creamy homemade caramel sauce that adds a delightful sweet touch to desserts.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt


Instructions

  1. In a heavy saucepan, stir together the sugar and water to create an even layer.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat. Allow it to bubble and become clear (about 3–4 minutes).
  3. Stop stirring and swirl the pan gently if needed.
  4. Cook until the mixture turns a deep amber color (8–12 minutes).
  5. Carefully whisk in the butter until it melts.
  6. Remove the pan from heat, then slowly whisk in the heavy cream, followed by the vanilla extract and salt.
  7. Allow the caramel to cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer it to a jar.

Notes

Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat gently to soften before use.
