Description
A rich and hearty Italian sauce made with slow-cooked beef and caramelized onions, perfect for pasta, polenta, or fresh bread.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef (typically chuck)
- 4 large onions, chopped
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup white wine (optional)
- Herbs (like thyme or bay leaves, optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the beef, browning on all sides.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Reduce heat to low and cover the pot, cooking slowly for several hours. Stir occasionally, adding a splash of white wine if desired.
- Once the beef is tender and the onions have broken down into a rich sauce, remove from heat.
- Serve hot with pasta, polenta, or bread.
