Description
An exciting science experiment that mimics a volcanic eruption, perfect for kids and adults. Learn about chemical reactions while having fun!
Ingredients
- 1 small plastic cup or container
- 2–3 tbsp baking soda
- 2–3 tbsp dish soap (foaming works great)
- 1/2 cup vinegar or more
- Food coloring (optional, red/orange/yellow for lava effect)
- Tray or deep dish to contain the mess
- Spoon or craft stick for stirring
Instructions
- Set up the volcano base: Place the small cup inside a tray or shallow bin to catch overflow.
- Add the baking soda: Pour 2–3 tablespoons of baking soda into the cup.
- Add color and soap: Add a few drops of food coloring for a lava effect and then pour in 2–3 tablespoons of dish soap.
- Stir and prepare: Use a spoon or craft stick to gently stir the contents.
- Erupt the volcano! Slowly pour in 1/2 cup of vinegar into the cup and watch the eruption.
- For repeat eruptions: Add more baking soda and vinegar as needed to continue the bubbling action.
Notes
Use a bigger container for a more dramatic eruption and experiment with different food coloring for various lava effects.
