Ingredients
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- Water (as needed to make a paste)
- Food coloring or liquid watercolor paints (variety of colors)
- Vinegar (in squirt bottles, droppers, or spray bottles)
- Muffin tin or small bowls for color separation
- Paintbrushes or pipettes
- White cardstock or watercolor paper
- Tray or shallow bin to contain mess
Instructions
- Prepare your workspace by covering surfaces with newspapers or a plastic cover.
- Gather muffin tin or small bowls and measure out baking soda and cornstarch into separate sections.
- Add food coloring or liquid watercolor paint to each mixture.
- Slowly add water and stir until achieving a thick, paint-like paste.
- Let kids use paintbrushes or pipettes to apply the paste onto cardstock or watercolor paper.
- Provide each child with a squirt bottle or dropper filled with vinegar to drizzle or spray over their artwork.
- Watch the fizzing reaction as vinegar interacts with the pastel mixture!
- Set the paintings aside to dry completely.
Notes
