Description

A fun and exciting art project for kids that combines painting with a fizzing science reaction using vinegar.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • Water (as needed to make a paste)
  • Food coloring or liquid watercolor paints (variety of colors)
  • Vinegar (in squirt bottles, droppers, or spray bottles)
  • Muffin tin or small bowls for color separation
  • Paintbrushes or pipettes
  • White cardstock or watercolor paper
  • Tray or shallow bin to contain mess

Instructions

  1. Gather all the ingredients and materials. Ensure a clean workspace with newspaper or plastic cover for easy cleanup.
  2. Combine 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup cornstarch in each section of the muffin tin or small bowls.
  3. Add a few drops of food coloring or liquid watercolor to each bowl.
  4. Slowly add water, mixing until a thick, paint-like paste forms. Adjust consistency as needed.
  5. Use paintbrushes or pipettes to apply the colored paste onto white cardstock or watercolor paper.
  6. Fill squirt bottles or droppers with vinegar for the fizzing reaction.
  7. Let kids drizzle or spray vinegar over their paintings and watch the fizzing action.
  8. Allow the artwork to dry completely to appreciate the unique masterpieces.

Notes

Supervise kids when using vinegar as it can be an irritant. Allow children to experiment creatively without strict rules.
