Description

A fun science experiment combining baking soda and vinegar to create a colorful volcanic eruption.


Ingredients

  • Clear glass jar with lid
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • Various colors of food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap
  • Small mixing bowls
  • Craft sticks or spoons for stirring


Instructions

  1. Place baking soda into the bottom of the jar.
  2. In separate small bowls, mix vinegar with different food coloring drops.
  3. Slowly pour one colored vinegar mixture into the jar over the baking soda.
  4. Watch as the mixture fizzes and bubbles, creating a colorful eruption.
  5. Add more baking soda and pour in other colored vinegar mixtures to continue the eruption in different colors.

Notes

Perform the experiment outdoors or on a tray to catch any overflow. Supervision is recommended for children.
