Description

Create charming glowing fireflies using recycled plastic bottles for a whimsical outdoor decoration.

Ingredients

  • 1 clear plastic bottle (small soda or water bottle)
  • Glow sticks or battery-powered tea lights (safe for kids)
  • Black construction paper or foam (for wings & head)
  • Pipe cleaners (for antennae)
  • Googly eyes
  • Tape or hot glue (with adult supervision)
  • Scissors
  • Optional: acrylic paint, glitter, stickers for decoration

Instructions

  1. Clean & dry the bottle: Remove any labels from the plastic bottle. Rinse it thoroughly and let it dry completely.
  2. Add the glow: Activate the glow stick and place it inside the bottle or insert a battery-powered LED tea light.
  3. Make the firefly parts: Cut out wings from black or silver paper. Create a head from black paper that fits over the cap. Attach pipe cleaners for antennae and glue googly eyes.
  4. Assemble your firefly: Use tape or glue to attach wings to the bottle and place the head on top. Decorate with glitter, stickers, or paint.
  5. Glow & go: Take your firefly outside and enjoy it during storytelling sessions or as a magical yard decoration.

Notes

Supervise younger children when using scissors and hot glue. Experiment with different bottle sizes and colors for variety.
