Description

A fun and colorful treat made from tapioca pearls, perfect for drinks and desserts.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup small white tapioca pearls, uncooked
  • 5 cups water
  • Food coloring gel or liquid (multiple colors)
  • Optional: flavored drink mix powder (Kool-Aid, fruit punch, etc.)
  • Optional: sugar syrup or fruit juice for flavoring

Instructions

  1. Bring 5 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Add 1 cup of tapioca pearls and stir gently.
  3. Boil for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pearls become mostly translucent.
  4. Turn off the heat and cover the pot. Let it sit for an additional 15 minutes.
  5. Drain the pearls through a mesh strainer and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process.
  6. Separate the pearls into different bowls if making multiple colors.
  7. In small bowls, mix the tapioca pearls with a few drops of food coloring or drink mix powder for flavor and color.
  8. Let them sit for 10-15 minutes to absorb the colors, stirring occasionally.
  9. Rinse the pearls briefly again and use them in drinks, as edible sensory bins, or decorations on cakes.
  10. Store in the fridge in an airtight container with water for up to 2 days.

Notes

Stir the pearls while boiling to prevent sticking. Experiment with different colors and flavors. For a sweeter treat, drizzle sugar syrup or fruit juice.
