Create a mesmerizing lightning storm effect in a jar using simple ingredients. A fun and educational activity for all ages!

Ingredients

  • 1 clear glass or plastic jar with lid
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil
  • Glitter (silver or white)
  • Food coloring (blue or purple)
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets (or any effervescent tablets)
  • Spoon or stir stick

Instructions

  1. Fill the jar with water until it’s about 1/3 full.
  2. Carefully pour vegetable oil into the jar until it’s almost full, letting it settle.
  3. Sprinkle in a small amount of glitter and add a few drops of food coloring.
  4. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into pieces and drop them in one at a time.
  5. Watch as bubbles rise, carrying the glitter to create a storm effect.

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring colors and glitter sizes to change the storm effect. Seal jar with a lid for storage, but do not add Alka-Seltzer again after the first use.
