Description
A fun and creative activity that combines science with art, creating a beautiful visual display that mimics a rain cloud.
Ingredients
- 1 clear glass jar or cup
- Shaving cream (foam, not gel)
- 1/2 cup water (per color)
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Small bowls or cups for mixing colors
- Droppers or teaspoons
- 1 spoon for stirring (optional)
Instructions
- Fill your glass jar about 3/4 full with water to represent the atmosphere.
- Spray a generous amount of shaving cream on top of the water to form a ‘cloud’ above the surface.
- In separate small bowls, mix water with a few drops of food coloring to create different colored solutions.
- Using droppers or teaspoons, gently drop the colored water onto the shaving cream cloud.
- Observe how the colors seep through the cloud and fall into the water below, mimicking rainfall.
Notes
You can cover the jar to prevent spills, but colors may fade over time. Best to create fresh for the best display.
