Description

A cozy and comforting dessert with warm apples topped with a crunchy oat topping, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice, then add granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix until the apples are evenly coated and transfer them to the baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine oats, 1/2 cup flour, brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the topping over the apples and bake for 40–45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  5. Let it rest for 10–15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For an extra crunch, add chopped nuts to the oat topping or experiment with different spices like nutmeg or ginger.
