Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
  • 23 drops vinegar (white distilled vinegar)
  • Variety of bright food coloring
  • Small clear plastic cups or muffin tin
  • Tray or pan to catch spills
  • Pipette, spoon, or small cup for pouring

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients and tools.
  2. Place the small clear plastic cups or muffin tin wells on a tray to catch any spills.
  3. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of baking soda into each cup or well.
  4. Add 2–3 drops of different food coloring into each cup, right on top of the baking soda.
  5. Using a pipette, spoon, or small cup, slowly pour vinegar over the baking soda in each cup.
  6. Watch as your colorful fizzing ‘fireworks’ erupt!
  7. Experiment by adding more vinegar to see how the reaction intensifies or try different color combinations.
