Description

A classic Italian-American dish, Baked Ziti with Ground Beef and Ricotta is a hearty pasta bake that combines ziti, ground beef, ricotta, and melted cheese for a comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Add the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked ziti, beef mixture, ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix well.
  6. Pour the mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

Leftover Baked Ziti can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days or frozen for longer storage. Cook the pasta just until it’s al dente to prevent it from becoming too soft during baking.
