Description
Baked Cannelloni is a wonderful Italian dish featuring pasta tubes filled with a delicious mixture of sausage, mushrooms, and cheese, topped with a creamy béchamel sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Italian Sausage, casing removed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 4 ounces mushrooms, finely chopped
- 12 ounces mozzarella cheese, cubed or shredded
- 2 egg yolks
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 6 tablespoons flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- 12 Cannelloni pasta shells
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions
- Sauté the onion, mushroom, and sausage in a pan until cooked through.
- In a separate pot, combine butter, flour, and milk; stir until the mixture thickens to create béchamel sauce.
- Mix half of the béchamel sauce with the sausage mixture and mozzarella cheese.
- Carefully fill each Cannelloni shell with the sausage and cheese mixture, then place them in a baking dish and pour the remaining béchamel sauce on top.
- Sprinkle the grated mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, and dried oregano on top.
- Preheat oven to 400°F and bake for 45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Allow dish to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Use fresh herbs like parsley or basil for added flavor. Cook the Cannelloni shells for a few minutes before filling to make them easier to fill. Consider different vegetables or cheeses based on preference.
